ManyChat for WhatsApp
Jul 27 2026
Many ManyChat-for-WhatsApp guides quote pricing that stopped being accurate over a year ago. Meta switched WhatsApp Business billing from a per-conversation model to per-message billing on July 1, 2025, and the change is still tripping people up. Here's what setup and cost actually look like right now.
What You Need Before You Touch ManyChat
WhatsApp automation doesn't run through the regular WhatsApp Business app — it runs through the WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API), which requires:
A Meta Business Manager account
A verified WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)
A phone number that has never been active on standard WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business
You also need a ManyChat plan that supports the channel. Under ManyChat's current five-tier structure (introduced March 2, 2026), WhatsApp is only available starting on the Pro plan.
ManyChat Plan | Monthly Price (billed monthly) | Active Contacts | WhatsApp Access |
Free | $0 | 25 | No |
Essential | $17 | 250 | No |
Pro | $39 | 2,500 | Yes |
Business | $99 | 7,500 | Yes |
Advanced | $199 | 25,000 | Yes |
Annual billing brings these down (Pro runs closer to $29/month paid yearly), but WhatsApp itself is billed separately by Meta on top of whichever plan you're on — and that's where most cost surprises happen.
How Meta Actually Charges for WhatsApp Now
Before July 2025, Meta charged per 24-hour conversation. Now every template message is billed individually, and the rate depends on both the message category and the recipient's country.
Message Category | Billed When Outside the 24-Hour Window? | Notes |
Marketing | Always billed, even inside the window | No volume discount |
Utility | Billed outside the window | Volume discounts available at high monthly send counts |
Authentication | Billed outside the window | Volume discounts available at high monthly send counts |
Service (customer replies) | Free, no cap | Standard 24-hour customer service window — the old "first 1,000 free" limit was removed in November 2024 |
Replies inside an open 24-hour service window are free with no monthly ceiling. Conversations that start from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or the WhatsApp button on Instagram/Facebook get an extended 72-hour free window. The practical upshot: WhatsApp is cheap for answering people who message you first, and expensive for broadcasting to people who haven't.
What a Marketing Template Actually Costs
Rates vary by country. A few reference points as of 2026:
United States: approximately $0.025 per delivered marketing message
Brazil: approximately $0.063
India: approximately $0.011
Western Europe (including markets like Estonia): approximately $0.068 via Cloud API, or $0.061 via the newer Marketing Messages Lite API
Utility messages generally run cheaper, around $0.02 regardless of category discounts
Meta also began rolling out a small set of country-specific rate changes on July 1, 2026 — Poland, Hong Kong, Hungary, Qatar, Romania, and Singapore moved out of shared "Rest Of" regional pricing into their own individual rates, which is worth checking if any of those are core markets for you.
Automate Your WhatsApp Conversations
Step 1: Verify Your WhatsApp Business Account
Inside ManyChat, go to Settings > WhatsApp and follow the guided WABA verification flow through Meta Business Manager. Approval can take several business days, so start this before a launch date, not the week of it.
Step 2: Build and Submit Message Templates
Anything you might need to send outside the 24-hour window — appointment reminders, order updates, re-engagement messages — has to exist as a pre-approved template. Build these in ManyChat and submit them for Meta approval ahead of time; templates rejected or pending won't send when you need them.
Step 3: Build Your First Flow
The highest-value starting points are usually:
Welcome flow — fires the first time someone messages your number, with a short menu (support, sales, FAQs)
Order or booking status updates — sent as an approved utility template when a status changes
Lead capture — 2–3 qualifying questions before handing off to a human or a tagged segment
Keep messages short and conversational. WhatsApp users read it as a texting channel, not email, and a message that reads like a newsletter reduces reply rates.
Step 4: Set a Clear Handoff Point
Decide the exact trigger — a phrase like "talk to a person," a specific question, or a tag — where the bot stops and routes the conversation to Live Chat. Without this, complex questions get stuck looping through automation instead of reaching your team.
Where the Cost Actually Adds Up
Two mistakes account for most unexpectedly high WhatsApp bills on ManyChat:
Broadcasting marketing templates to a large list. Because marketing messages are billed every time regardless of the window, a 5,000-contact broadcast at $0.025 each in the US runs $125 per send — and that's before ManyChat's own plan fee. Segmenting recipients by actual intent, rather than blasting the full list, controls this directly.
Letting the 24-hour window close on active leads. Once it closes, your next message needs an approved template and costs money, even for something as simple as following up. Building flows that prompt a reply (a question, a button) keeps the window open and keeps replies free.
Turn WhatsApp Chats Into Leads
Why It's Worth Prioritising Despite the Complexity
WhatsApp has among the highest open and reply rates of any messaging channel, and the pricing structure actually rewards responsive businesses — replying is free, broadcasting isn't. For a business that already gets inbound WhatsApp interest, automating the service-window conversations (FAQs, order status, initial qualification) is close to free to run and frees your team for the conversations that need a human. Start with one flow inside the service window, track how much of your volume resolves without a paid template, and expand from there.
