How to Choose the Exact Sqaurespace Plan Your Business Needs

Squarespace is an all-in-one website-building platform that allows individuals to create professional websites without the need for coding expertise. It offers a range of templates, portfolio and blog creation tools, as well as online store and marketing features for businesses.

While building your website can be exciting, it can also be overwhelming. Especially when it comes to choosing the right financial plan. That’s where this blog comes in. We will break down the different plans offered by Squarespace so you can make the right decision and not pay for features you don’t need.

Personal Plan

The Personal Plan is Squarespace’s beginner plan. This  plan is ideal for simple portfolios, informational websites, and personal blogs.

Who it's for: Freelancers, job-seekers needing a resume site, hobby bloggers, and artists who need to display their work.

Key Features:

  • Mobile-optimised templates.

  • Basic website analytics (traffic, visitor geography).

  • Free custom domain registration for the first year.

  • Unlimited bandwidth and storage.

Limitation

The Personal Plan does not allow for custom CSS or code injection. This if  you are a designer, wants to add third-party widgets or complete control over your site's look, this tier is restrictive.

Business Plan

This is the starting plan for business domains. It’s the upgrade that gives you full control and enables basic selling.

Key Upgrade Features:

  • Custom Code (CSS/JavaScript): Complete design flexibility via code blocks and injection.

  • Unlimited Contributors: Perfect for a team of developers.

  • Premium Integrations: Access to promotional pop-ups, announcement bars, and integrations with services like Mailchimp.

Squarespace Commerce Plan

The Commerce Plans are built for sellers. The cost savings from eliminating transaction fees quickly make these tiers the more economical choice for any established store.

Basic Commerce Basic

The price difference from the Business Plan is nominal considering the benefits you gain.

Who it's for: Online stores, e-commerce startups, and sellers focused on retail.

Benefits:

  • 0% Squarespace Transaction Fees. This is the key selling point. You entirely eliminate the 3% fee charged on the Business Plan, maximising your profit margins right away.

Break-Even Example: The annual difference between the Business Plan (approx. $276) and the Basic Commerce Plan (approx. $336) is only $60. Once your annual sales surpass $2,000, the 3% fee on the Business Plan (which would cost you $60) makes the Basic Commerce Plan the cheaper option. Any sales above that mark are pure savings.

Feature Boost:

  • Customer Accounts for faster checkout.

  • Robust e-commerce analytics.

  • Point of Sale (POS) tools for in-person sales integration.

Advanced Commerce Plan

The Advanced Commerce tier is Squarespace’s most powerful package, built for businesses that need scalability, automation, and advanced selling tools.

Who it’s for: High-volume sellers, stores managing complex inventory or shipping, and businesses offering subscription-based products.

Key Features:

  • Abandoned Cart Recovery: Automatically follows up with customers who leave items in their cart, helping recover 5–15% of lost sales.

  • Subscription Products: Enables recurring billing for memberships, subscription boxes, or digital content.

  • Carrier-Calculated Shipping: Provides accurate, real-time shipping rates from USPS, FedEx, and UPS based on order weight and delivery distance — ensuring you don’t undercharge or overcharge customers.

  • Decision Point: If recurring revenue or precise shipping calculations are vital to your business model, this plan is the most suitable choice.

Things to Remember Before Purchasing a Plan

To maintain transparency, keep these other costs in mind when budgeting:

  • Annual vs. Monthly: The prices listed above reflect the discount you receive by paying for the year upfront. Monthly billing is comparatively more expensive but offers greater flexibility if you plan to launch and test briefly.

  • Payment Processor Fees: Even with the 0% Squarespace transaction fee on Commerce plans, you must still pay the standard card processing fee (typically around 2.9%+$0.30 per transaction)

  • Domain Renewal: The free domain included in annual plans is complimentary for the first year only. After that, it renews at the regular rate, typically $12–$20 per year.

Conclusion

Now that we have reached the end of this blog according to me I fell, the Personal or Business tier is the right option if you are looking for professional presence and customisation. You can opt for one of the Commerce tiers to eliminate additional  transaction fees and automate your retail operations.
