How to Build a Website with Hostinger

You can have a fully functional website live on the internet within an hour using Hostinger. I have done it multiple times for test sites, client projects, and personal experiments. This guide covers both paths: using WordPress and using Hostinger’s drag-and-drop Website Builder. Pick the one that matches your needs and follow along.

Decide: WordPress or Website Builder?

Before you buy hosting, decide which tool you will use to build your site.

Choose WordPress if you are building a blog, content site, affiliate website, online course platform, membership site, or an e-commerce store with more than 50 products. WordPress gives you unlimited flexibility through 60,000+ plugins and thousands of themes.

Register or Connect Your Domain

If you are using the free domain included with your plan, search for your desired domain name during setup. Hostinger will register it and configure DNS automatically.

If you already own a domain from another registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains), you need to point it to Hostinger. Go to your current registrar and update the nameservers to: ns1.dns-parking.com or ns2.dns-parking.com

DNS propagation takes anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours, though most changes take effect within 2 hours. You can check propagation status at whatsmydns.net.

Build with WordPress

Install WordPress

In hPanel, go to the WordPress section and click Auto Installer. Enter your site title, admin username, admin password, and admin email. Click Install. WordPress is ready in under a minute.

Choose Your Theme

Log in to WordPress at yourdomain.com/wp-admin. Go to Appearance, then Themes, then Add New. Install a lightweight theme. My recommendations for different site types:

Business website: Astra or Kadence. Clean, fast, and professional.

Blog: GeneratePress or Flavour Jeune. Minimal and content-focused.

E-commerce: Storefront (by WooCommerce) or Astra with WooCommerce integration.

Install Essential Plugins

For a business website, install: LiteSpeed Cache (pre-installed on Hostinger, activate it), Yoast SEO or Rank Math (search optimisation), WPForms Lite (contact form), and UpdraftPlus (backup).

For an e-commerce site, add: WooCommerce (store functionality), Stripe or PayPal gateway plugin (payment processing).

Create Your Pages

Build these pages at a minimum:

Homepage: Your primary value proposition, key services or products, and a clear call to action. Keep it focused. One page, one goal.

About Page: Your story, team, mission. Include real photos and genuine details. This page builds trust.

Services or Products Page: What you offer, at what price, and why someone should choose you.

Contact Page: A form, your email, your phone number if applicable, and your business address or service area.

Configure Settings

Set your permalink structure to “Post name” under Settings, then Permalinks. Activate SSL in hPanel and ensure your site loads on HTTPS. Set up your site favicon. Configure your SEO plugin with your site title and business information. Connect Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

Launch the Builder

In hPanel, click Website Builder under the Websites section. The AI builder will ask about your business type and generate an initial website structure.

Customise Your Design

The visual editor opens with your AI-generated site. Click any element to edit it. Drag elements to rearrange them. Use the left panel to add new sections, change templates, modify global styles (fonts, colours, spacing), and manage pages.

Tips for a professional result: Stick to two fonts maximum. One for headings, one for body text. Maintain consistent spacing between sections. Use your brand colours for buttons and accents. Replace all placeholder images with your own photos or high-quality stock images.

Add Your Content

Replace all placeholder text with your actual content. Write in short paragraphs. Use headings to break up sections. Every page should have one clear purpose and one primary call to action.

Set Up Your Online Store (Optional)

If you are selling products, go to the Store section in the builder. Add products with titles, descriptions, prices, and images. Configure payment settings with Stripe or PayPal. Set shipping rules and tax rates.

Configure SEO

For each page, click the SEO settings. Add a title tag (under 60 characters), a meta description (under 155 characters), and a clean URL slug. Add alt text to all images.

Set Up Email

In hPanel, go to Emails. Create your professional email address (yourname@yourdomain.com). Hostinger includes free email on Premium and above. Configure your email client (Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail) using the settings Hostinger provides.

A professional email address on your domain is non-negotiable for any business website. It signals legitimacy.

Test Before Going Public

Before sharing your URL with anyone, run through this checklist:

Load every page on mobile and desktop. Check that all links work. Verify that forms submit correctly and that you receive the submission. Confirm SSL is active (padlock icon in browser). Test page speed on GTmetrix. Check that your site appears correctly on different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari).

Fix any issues before launch. First impressions matter. A broken contact form or a missing SSL certificate will cost you trust.

Launch and Promote
