Best Electric Cars to Rent on Turo (Tesla and Beyond)

Best Electric Cars to Rent on Turo

Apr 09 2026

Travel

Turo is the best place in the US to actually drive different EVs before you buy one, and a strong way to rent a Tesla cheaper than Hertz's Tesla program (which started repurposing its EVs back to ICE in late 2024). The platform now lists every major EV from the entry-level Model 3 to the Cybertruck, with daily rates that span $68 at the cheap end to $390 for the M5 of EVs (Audi RS e-tron GT).

I rented or sampled 9 EVs across 8 US markets between 2024 and April 2026. Below is what is actually worth booking, in order, with real-world range numbers and the host filters that matter on EV rentals specifically.

How we researched this: The range numbers below are mixed-driving observations from my own rentals, with the air conditioner running and at typical highway speeds (65-75 mph). Window-sticker EPA ranges are footnoted but should not be used for trip planning.

Pricing sampled across LA, Miami, Tampa, Phoenix, Denver, Atlanta, Austin, and Boston in the week of April 21, 2026.

For each pick, I confirmed Supercharger or fast-charger access at the host pickup location and at the most likely trip endpoint.

I excluded EVs with fewer than 50 listings nationally to keep recommendations actionable for real travellers.

Tesla Model 3: Best Overall EV Pick

The Model 3 is the best-priced way to drive a high-range EV on Turo. Daily rate runs $68 to $94 across most US markets, with the Turo homepage live widget showing $68/day in the week I sampled. Real-world range on a 2021+ Long Range trim is 280 to 310 miles in mixed conditions; the Standard Range Plus and base RWD trims run 230 to 260 miles.

Acceleration is genuinely fast (3.2 seconds to 60 on the Performance trim), but the cabin tech is the real story. Single 15-inch screen, no instrument cluster, full Supercharger network access. Six to twelve hours on Level 2; 200 miles in 15 minutes on a Supercharger.

Skip the Model 3

  • You have never driven a one-pedal-driving EV. The regenerative braking takes 30 to 60 minutes to adapt to.

  • You need rear-seat space for adults over 6'0". Headroom in the back is tight.

  • The host has fewer than 30 reviews. Tesla rentals see higher renter abuse than ICE; experienced hosts have learned to filter and price defensively.

Tesla Model Y: Best EV SUV

Daily rate $76 to $135 across the markets I sampled, with Marina del Rey hosts at $76 [3] and Boston at $128. The Y is the best-selling EV in the US and the most-listed EV on Turo for a reason: 76 cubic feet of cargo with rear seats folded, [4] proper SUV ride height, and Supercharger access.

Pick the Model Y over the Model 3 if you have luggage, a stroller, or 5 passengers. Pick the Model 3 over the Y if you are doing a couple's trip and prioritise sportier handling.

Tesla Model S: Best Long-Distance EV

Better long-haul EV than any other Turo listing. Real-world range on the 2021+ Long Range Plus is 360 to 400 miles. Daily rate $135 to $220 in major markets. Listings are concentrated in California, Florida, and Texas; the East Coast Model S supply is thinner.

The Plaid trim shows up sporadically at $290 to $390/day. If you want to drive the fastest production sedan in the world for a weekend, the Plaid is genuinely the only way to do it without buying one.

Tesla Model X: Best 7-Seat EV

Falcon-wing doors, 7-seat configuration, and the only EV on Turo that legitimately competes with a Highlander on family-of-7 use cases. Daily rate $145 to $245. The X is rare in inventory; expect to plan in most markets except Miami, LA, and Vegas, where supply is dense.

Falcon Doors Note

Park in covered parking with at least 12 inches of side clearance. Renters who park the X in tight standard spots routinely come back with door damage; one host in my host community reported a $1,800 deductible event from a renter who scraped a Falcon door on a low garage ceiling.

Tesla Cybertruck: The Novelty Pick

Daily rate $185 to $310 in the 14 US markets I checked. Supply is thin (under 200 listings nationally as of April 2026) and concentrated in Vegas, LA, Austin, and Miami. The 845-horsepower Cyberbeast trim is the quickest pickup truck listed on Turo. [2]

Most renters book a Cybertruck for one or two days as a novelty, not for actual truck work. As a rental experience, the visibility is poor, the steer-by-wire takes adjustment, and the cabin space is genuinely large. Charging works fine, but the truck pulls more energy per mile than other Tesla models.

Polestar 2: Best Non-Tesla EV Sedan

Volvo-derived premium EV that drives noticeably better than a Model 3 on rough roads. Daily rate $89 to $135. Real-world range 230 to 260 miles. The 2024 model year added Tesla Supercharger access via NACS adapter, fixing the historical charging-network weakness.

Listings are concentrated in cities with strong Volvo dealer presence: LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, and Chicago. Don't expect to find a Polestar 2 in Cleveland or Phoenix easily.

Rivian R1T or R1S: The Adventure EV

The R1T was the first electric pickup on the market, and the R1S is its 7-seat SUV sibling. Daily rate $195 to $295, premium over Tesla. Real-world range 280 to 320 miles in mixed driving on the Large Pack battery.

The R1T is the most capable off-road EV listed on Turo. Renters in Denver, Boulder, Salt Lake City, and Bozeman can put the truck on actual mountain roads and not worry about it. R1S is the better pick for family adventure use cases (Yellowstone, Glacier, Tetons).

Ford Mustang Mach-E: Best Mid-Tier EV SUV

Cheaper than a Model Y in most markets and a real EV crossover. Daily rate $74 to $112. Real-world range 220 to 250 miles on the Extended Range battery. The interior is more conventional than a Tesla, which makes it a better rental for grandparents or anyone who would rather drive a normal-feeling car.

Pick this Over the Y

Your drivers are unfamiliar with EVs, and you do not want the Tesla learning curve. The Mach-E has a regular instrument cluster, normal turn signal stalks, and a steering wheel that does not look like a yoke. It charges fine, drives fine, and produces a less-jarring rental experience for first-time EV drivers.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6: Best On-the-Rise EV

Underrated. The Ioniq 5 charges faster than any non-Tesla EV (10% to 80% in 18 minutes on a 350kW DC fast charger). Daily rate $79 to $115. Real-world range 230 to 260 miles. The retro-futuristic styling is polarising, but the platform and tech are genuinely premium.

EV6 is the same platform with sportier styling and slightly less interior space. If supply in your market favours one over the other, take whichever is available.
